History

Ansaldo began life in 1853 and since then its own history has reflected that of Italian industry as a whole. Over the years the company has made significant contributions to the key mechanical, naval and electrical engineering sectors. From the steam boilers of the industrial revolution to today's thermoelectric power plants: for one hundred and fifty years Ansaldo has been at the cutting edge of the modernisation course and socio-economic development which have led to contemporary Italy. This constantly ongoing story of men, organisation, know-how, technological innovation, design and construction skills gives a fuller insight into the vitality of present-day Ansaldo Energia and its place both in Italian industrial system and on the international market.

1912 First Power Plant
1949 GE License for Steam Turbines and Generators
1962 First supercritical 600MW Power Plant
1980 Beginning of strong overseas commitment
1989 ABB Licensee for Steam Turbines and Generators
1991 Ansaldo refocused business model on energy sector: Ansaldo Energia was established
  Siemens License for Gas Turbines
  Acquisition of Franco Tosi, since 40 years manufacturing Steam Turbines based on Westinghouse technology
1995 First Combined Cycle based on Ansaldo Energia GT
2004 New Global Service Strategy
2005 Total technological independence
2006/7 Acquisition of Thomassen Turbine Systems and ESG: OSP™ Concept launch
2008 100 Gas Turbines manufactured by Ansaldo Energia are in commercial operation
